Opinions

These opinions are all mine. They may (or may not) have been influenced by a few other people, but the words here are all mine. Mostly. Well, at least I put them here... Just be grateful that I didn't put more of them here. Hey, now there's an idea? What do you think? Psk. Well I like it.

I don't bother much with graphics. You can find some here and there, like on the first page. In general, tho, I can't be arsed. I even write "tho" instead of "though".

Some people care what we use, others don't. I have mixed feelings about the names of some things. A little empathy for others might help. It's not bad being a diabetic.

Genes are fascinating, aren't they? On the other hand, so are memes. Are you getting the answer you want? Do you like to party? Do you (should you) have good taste?

Information broking is about building communities. Should ideas be distributed without restriction? Speaking of Microsoft... we're all shitheads. Overzealous advocacy is harmful. No hardware/software company is an "evil empire". There are simply instruments of traditional empires, i.e. nations with interests in world trade. Software is not a lifestyle choice for all of us. For most people, it's not even a choice. Bigger threats come from people who think that technology can substitute for effective policing.

Sound effects are wonderful, aren't they? I'm not so sure about the TNG holodeck.

Speaking of Science Fiction...I don't trust Dan Goldin.

From RISKS 2.38, "I use this analogy because there is some evidence that limitations on short-term memory account for a variety of cognitive limitations, among which may be programming. Ultimately, it may the limitations of the human mind that prevent us from forever expanding our achievements.", which is one more reason, I think, to use the highest level programming language available.

I realised in the early 80s that users and programmers have very different perspectives. Who is at fault when bad tools like Frontpage are used? The universe isn't as linear as some would like. Nor is it as womblike as we'd prefer.

I love live music, or I certainly used to. Some of it has been good but some was truely dire.

I predicted that the Internet would threaten FidoNet, and look at it now. I buy things by mail order so much that I hardly need to go out!

Either I don't take death seriously, or I take it so seriously that I have to laugh a little. Who wants to live forever?

Sexual orientation is not a lifestyle choice. Nor is homelessness.

There can be no world peace while we can make distinctions like first world / third world, making some of us haves and others have-nots.

Programmers, or at least the ones you can find online, tend to assign status based on the code you write. Many more people, it appears, will assign status based on the money you make.

Even in Katie Puckrik's fast forward style, her autobiography, Shooting from the lip, is a frank and intimate account of a life.

And finally, some random thoughts and a diary.
